City to buy former downtown Boston Store building

The City of Sheboygan has reached an agreement to purchase the former Boston Store property, giving city leaders control of a site they view as critical to redeveloping the downtown.

 The Common Council approved the $500,000 purchase from a California-based real estate investment firm on Monday night following a closed session discussion, and the sale is now expected to close within the next two to three months...

“Taking control of that piece of property was probably the most important thing for the revitalization of the downtown,” Amodeo said.

 The city is expected to unveil its updated downtown master plan next month, which will lay out development initiatives for the area.

 Amodeo said the city will now work with developers to sort out the future of the property, with the goal of eventually selling it. For now though, city leaders felt it made the most sense for the city to take control of the property....
