ABOUT THE AREA’S PAPER INDUSTRY
Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan are known for their lumber industry. This is the major reason why Wisconsin has a robust paper industry. The Green Bay-Appleton area, connected by the Fox River, has earned the nickname “Paper Valley.” This region is 60 miles northwest of Sheboygan County. 140 miles to our south is the Midwest's distribution hub, Chicago. Sheboygan County is a perfect logistical area to add value to paper products before being shipped to Chicago's distribution centers.
LOCATION QUOTIENT (LQ)
The LQ of printing and related activities increased from 2.10 in 2001 to 2.80 in 2008. This means the printing industry has experienced continued growth in exporting products out of Sheboygan County. The paper manufacturing industry has a LQ of 4.4 or there is 4x the amount of paper manufacturing in Sheboygan County than the national average.
